Feeling crafty, but tired of painting? Do you love hands-on outings like pottery class, but want an activity that’s easier to replicate at home?
Visit Food for Taught, and learn how to cook instead.
Located in Fiona Lynch-Magor’s kitchen in O’Connor, only a 5-minute drive from the centre of Canberra - you’ll learn a new cuisine, improve your skills, and have a great day (or night) out.
With classes capped at 6 people, you’ll also get a more intimate cooking experience than in a commercial kitchen - plus receive practical advice and hands-on help with your technique. You’ll be able to enjoy a walk in the vegetable patch, too.
About Fiona
Fiona Lynch-Magor | Creative Director
Food for Taught was established in January 2025, inspired by Fiona’s own experiences participating in home-based cooking classes across the world.
This is not a restaurant kitchen – you’ll be learning dishes, skills, and techniques in Fiona’s home, developed through years of reading, travels, and perhaps too many hours watching BBC Food.
Frequently-Asked Questions
-
Food for Taught is inspired by the Cesarine model, where home cooks throughout Italy invite guests to their homes to learn authentic Italian cooking. Fiona travels a lot, and loves to attend home cooking classes during her adventures - but couldn’t find anything similar in Australia! After years of thinking about it, she launched Food for Taught in 2025.
By participating in a cooking class at Fiona’s home, you get to learn hands-on skills based on real-life travels. Plus, you might learn nifty shortcuts, cheap ingredient alternatives, and healthier options which you may not get in a professional restaurant cooking school.

On average, each 2.5 hour class costs $185.00. This includes two hours of cooking instruction, and a 30-minute session at the end where everyone can enjoy tasting the results.
Seasonal masterclasses such as Olives (May) and Truffles (July-August) may have a higher ticket price, as these events are more exclusive and can only be run in 1-2 months of the year.
-
Water is available for anyone who needs a drink. We do not provide alcohol, as we are a food education-based business which accepts bookings from families and accompanied minors between 16-18. We do not have a liquor license at this time.
-
Young people between the ages of 16 and 18 may attend Food for Taught classes only if accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. The parent or guardian is responsible for making the booking, and for the safety of the young person, at all times. Multiple tickets must be purchased; one for the guardian and one for each accompanied minor.
Please note that babies and children under 16 are not permitted to attend Food for Taught, for safety reasons and to ensure a relaxed experience for all participants. Participants who bring underage children will be required to leave without a refund.
Mature-age people, elderly people, and people with disabilities are welcome to attend classes - but please advise Fiona of any mobility requirements or other critical information prior to booking. She will give you the go-ahead if these requests can be accommodated. Carers may be eligible for a fee waiver to accompany their clients to classes.
-
Card payment is required at the time of booking. If you like, you can choose to save your card details on file to make checkout easier next time.
-
Cancel or reschedule your class up to 72 hours before its starting time to automatically receive a full refund or penalty-free booking into something else.
If you’ve cancelled or rescheduled after that cut-off but more than 24 hours before your class, contact Fiona directly and she may be able to apply a partial refund pending class demand and the price already paid for your ingredients.
No refunds will be given for cancellations or reschedules made less than 24 hours before a class, as that’s not enough time to find someone else to take your spot.

At Food for Taught, you’ll get a more intimate home cooking class - small class sizes, local ingredients, and no compromise on quality.
$185 covers 2.5 hours active time, the prep work required before the class, and the ingredients needed for your authentic cooking experience. Fiona shops locally where possible and uses seasonal ingredients - some of the produce used in Food for Taught classes even comes from the home garden.
In addition, having a higher price for the class lets us take on smaller groups for a more intimate experience. With a maximum of 6 participants in any class, you’ll be able to ask more questions, and you’ll get more 1:1 help to really troubleshoot techniques.
Accounting for the exchange rate from the Euro, these prices actually work out cheaper than many international options, too.
