About Food for Taught
Cooking class - but in a local Canberra home.
Food for Taught was established in January 2025, inspired by Fiona’s own experiences participating in home-based cooking classes across the world.
This is not a restaurant kitchen – you’ll be learning dishes, skills, and techniques in Fiona’s home. She’s developed these through years of reading, travels, experiments, and perhaps too many hours watching BBC Food.
You can join one of Food for Taught’s already scheduled classes, or contact Fiona directly to arrange a time that works for everyone. You can choose from one of the already prepared menus or you can, in consultation with Fiona, work out a bespoke menu to learn to cook. It’s all up to you.
Find inspiration in family recipes and seasonal ingredients. These classes challenge the myth that cooking takes time that you don’t have - most of us just need some inspiration and courage.
About Fiona
Fiona is a local Canberran with family in Sardinia, England, Scotland and France.
She’s had a vision to be a home cook teaching other home cooks for many years. Inspired by other cooking experiences in homes in Italy, France, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and Spain, she has long planned such a venture here in Canberra.
Hoping to enjoy meeting a variety of people who would also enjoy the full experience of home cooking in a home setting, this venture hopes to inspire and engage and broaden the experience of the students and participants.
Fiona brings a wealth of experience to her table, as well as home grown, locally sourced, ethically sourced and organic ingredients. She also works hard to support other local and small businesses.
Important -
Food Allergies
Food for Taught is unfortunately unable to offer classes for people with severe food allergies or intolerances, including but not limited to coeliac disease, nut allergies, and shellfish allergies. This is because of the small, homestyle nature of the food preparation environment, and the diverse variety of cuisines and ingredients prepared on an ongoing basis. The risks of allergen and gluten contamination are too high, and an allergy-safe and gluten-free environment cannot be guaranteed.
But we accommodate food preferences where possible! Vegan, lower-dairy, or lower-gluten options may be available upon request – contact Fiona to see what’s possible in your preferred cuisine class, or enquire about designing a bespoke cooking experience for you and your guests.
